• The SUV for those who hate SUVs can be yours for 32,700 euros

Don’t worry, we are with you. In Diariomotor, in general, we are not lovers of SUVs. Perhaps we are too much petrolheads, but we see in SUVs less dynamic and efficient vehicles than their traditional counterparts, as well as more expensive. Nevertheless, SUVs are the best-selling cars in Spain and Europe, and we are not the only ones who make the purchase decision in the family. If an SUV is going to enter your home, you should know that for 32,700 euros you can take it home the perfect SUV for those who hate SUVs.

I am talking about the CUPRA Formentor. It is an SUV produced in Spain on the MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group. A vehicle without a counterpart in SEAT, and of course, with a much more striking appearance than the veteran SEAT Ateca. Compared to this SUV with a more traditional profile, the CUPRA Formentor hardly loses load capacity or interior habitability, and in return, it presents a much more technological cabin, the same exciting dynamics and a wider range of engines in which there are also various plug-in hybrids.

The interior quality of the CUPRA Formentor is at a high level. It is a vehicle that aspires to be considered premium.

We consider it to be one of the most recommended purchases in the segment if you value driving dynamics. not only have one of the most agile behaviors in the segment, if not that its driving position is slightly higher than that of a conventional tourism. It is a horse carriage between the world that you did not want to leave and the world that you have to live. The access version mounts a 1.5 TSI petrol engine and 150 hp, associated with a six-speed manual gearbox. It homologates an average consumption of the most reasonable, of a correct 6.4 l/100 km.

In return, it does the 0 to 100 km/h in less than 9 seconds and exceeds 200 km/h. As standard, it has extensive equipment that includes digital instrumentation, a infotainment system with 10-inch screen (compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), three-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors or 18-inch wheels. This version is currently for sale for 32,700 eurosa price on sale that has barely increased by 300 euros since last April.

One drawback: this version does not have hybridization and therefore does not have an ECO label from the DGT.

The price includes discounts and commercial contributions of the brand, but the CUPRA website does not detail whether vehicle financing is necessary. Be that as it may, it should be discussed in person at a brand award. In short, a 150 hp CUPRA Formentor 1.5 TSI for 32,700 euros is a purchase to be taken into account. Remember that in What car do I buy? you can find our buying guide with the best premium compact SUVs From the market.

  • Three second-hand SUVs, and for all tastes, for less than 30,000 euros

Inflation and the crisis we are experiencing is causing us to look for solutions in one way or another, and one of them may be the second-hand market. And it is that resorting to this we can find very good opportunities like the ones we are dealing with today, which are none other than three second-hand SUVs for less than 30,000 euros and for all tastes.

We are talking about modern cars, with current technology and mechanics with enough presence in the market to have already proven their reliability. In this way, we can get hold of a SEAT Ateca, a Hyundai Tucson or an Audi Q3with not much more than 50,000 kilometers -and even less depending on the unit- and in very good condition.

The SEAT SUV, with few kilometers

Starting with the SEAT Ateca, we find options for all tastes and customer profiles. We are talking about a car that is available on the second-hand market both with and without restyling, and in both cases for less than 30,000 euros. The mechanical offer is also wide, allowing us to choose between gasoline engines such as the 1.0 and 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TDI diesel engines.

If you want to lower even more than that maximum of 30,000 euros, it is advisable to opt for a pre-restyling unit. In this way, we find a SEAT Ateca equipped with the 150 hp 1.4 EcoTSI engine with Style finish for 22,271 euros, with 30,403 kilometers and 5 years behind him.

If, on the other hand, we want something newer and, above all, with restyling, we will have to stretch the budget a bit. Thus, we could get an Ateca with the 150 hp 1.5 TSI engine and Style finish for 28,900 eurosbeing its greatest asset it only has 7,788 kilometers and that it is a unit of 2022.

A state-of-the-art SUV for much less than you think

In second place we find the Hyundai Tucson, a general SUV that in its latest deliveries has taken giant steps. The best? That can be ours with a few kilometers and for less than 30,000 euros. What’s even better? That this situation can occur with the current generation of the Korean SUV.

So much so, that we can quickly run into a Hyundai Tucson from the year 2021 with 17,828 kilometers from the hand of the 115 hp 1.6 CRDI engine for 25,900 euros and Klass finish. However, we can also find units of the previous generation at a very good price and with higher equipment. This is shown by units like this one from the year 2020 with 27,700 kilometers, 132 hp 1.6 GDI engine and N-Line finish, and all this for 25,000 euros.

A premium SUV, at a generalist price

Last but not least, the Audi Q3, a car that shows that it is possible to have a premium SUV at a general price, well equipped and with not many kilometers behind it. Yes, all these requirements are met by the first generation Audi Q3, but we are still talking about a good and relatively modern car.

So much so, that we can get a unit of the SUV with the four rings of the year 2018 with 60,759 kilometers equipped with the 2.0 TDI 120 hp engine and Attraction finish for 24,200 euros. But if we really wanted an Audi Q3 of the current generation and we could stretch the budget up to 30,000 euroswe must know that there are units such as that of a Q3 of the year 2018 S Line 35 TDI, that is, the 2.0 TDI engine with 150 hp, for 30,890 euros but with a higher mileage, being in this case 114,032 kilometers, although equally low for a diesel car.

  • This unexpected 4×4 is the ace up Jeep’s sleeve to survive the electric car

With the presentation of the new Avenger at the Paris Motor Show, in addition to meeting the Jeep’s first electric car, we also discovered its first model without a 4×4 version. However, Jeep hid an ace up his sleeve, a wild card called Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept that advances the future of Jeep and its 4×4 in the era of the electric motor. For now it is only a prototype, but This electric 4×4 Avenger is Jeep’s first step to make all its SUVs 100% electric.

Just a few hours after its official presentation, the Jeep Avenger has been shown again in prototype version under the name of Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept. This model represents an important milestone for the brand, because although its production version has not been confirmed, everything indicates that it will hit the streets sooner rather than later.

The electric Jeep Avenger with 4×4 drive could be a very capable car in off-road driving

In essence, this is a movement by Jeep to maintain its philosophy even in its smallest and most affordable model. Despite the endowment of sufficient off-road levels, a ground clearance of 200 mm, underbody protections, descent control and traction control capable of improving grip on slippery surfaces, the idea of marketing a Jeep without the possibility of counting with 4×4 drive it was hard to stomach. Thus, Jeep has moved ahead of time to advance which will be the first electric Jeep 4×4.

This prototype shows a configuration very close to its possible serial production variant, being based on the 100% electric version of the Avenger. Even so, with respect to the Avenger 4×2, what we find is the addition of a second electric motor on the rear axle, managing to have four-wheel drive. At the same time, the ground clearance has been increased to over 200 mm and off-road dimensions have been improved to now have an entry angle of 34º, a ventral angle of 20º and an exit angle of 21º.

The Jeep Avenger 4xe is the first 4×4 developed on the CMP platform, now called STLA Small by Stellantis

Also off-road tires and improved electronics have been installed to support the new traction capabilities. For its part, the aesthetics of the Avenger 4×4 Concept looks more aggressive, highlighting the use of specific bumpers, towing hooks in blue and more protections for the bodywork. Taking into account Jeep’s commercial strategy for its more capable versions in 4×4, this prototype could reach the market converted into the Jeep Avenger 4xe Trailhawk.

Here we leave you images of the Jeep Avenger that will go on sale in 2023:

  • Evolution does not respect the elders: a Ferrari 308 GTB cannot with a simple Subaru BRZ

The technical evolution of cars has been unstoppable in these last decades. Although the end of internal combustion seems to be drawing near, we are currently living with the most powerful, efficient and unstoppable thermal cars ever created. Even simple cars like the Subaru BRZ put within our reach, for a modest price, features that less than 40 years ago were reserved only for supercars with exotic names. And the video that accompanies this article is the irrefutable proof of this, as you will see below.

It is a drag race published by Hoonigan’s YouTube channel, as part of his series called This vs. That. In this series, very different vehicles face each other in acceleration races. As is the case today: a Subaru BRZ from the year 2022, against a Ferrari 308 GTB Quattrovalvole from the year 1984. On paper, the Ferrari seems to have an advantage: it is somewhat lighter and its 2.9 V8 engine develops 240 hp and more torque than the BRZ’s 230 hp 2.4 boxer. But the question is how well is that power transmitted to the ground.

Even being less effective, the Ferrari’s eighties aesthetic is unbeatable.

And that’s when the Subaru BRZ – and the almost 40 years of technical evolution that separates them – starts to take off. Not only in sheer traction from a standstill, but also in increased acceleration in a fast race, where the Ferrari’s higher torque should have helped it gain ground. Not even with a (thick) passenger as ballast, the Ferrari is capable of beating the Subaru BRZ. If you needed proof that the technical evolution in performance of modern sports cars is overwhelming… look no further.

  • What is an all-wheel drive car, and how is it different from typical front and rear-wheel drive?

When we are going to buy a car, there are several characteristics that we have to take into account since it depends on what we buy, it will adapt more to what we need or not. For example, something that could interest us a lot is the type of traction that our car has, whether rear, front or integral. Of course, right now we may not know what all this means. So that you have it clearer, today we will talk about what it is all wheel drive or also known as 4×4 and why it may interest us that our car has this type of traction.

    What is traction?

To talk about all-wheel drive, it is important that we first understand what traction is. The traction refers the friction of the wheels when they contact the asphalt. This is achieved thanks to the transmission of power from the engine to the axles of the wheels allowing them to move. This is what makes the car move, without the traction it would not move.

Within the traction we can find the front, the rear and the integral. These types of traction differ in that the engine transmits the force to different wheel axles, which leads us to what is integral traction.

    What is all-wheel drive?

All-wheel drive occurs when the power of the motor is transmitted to all two axles, that is, to the four wheels of the car. This type of traction is what SUVs and some SUVs usually carry.

What are the advantages of having a car with all-wheel drive?

As we all know, the good thing about SUVs is that They can go anywhere even if the road is not well paved and that is what makes so many people love these types of cars. This characteristic is thanks to the fact that they have integral traction. It does not matter which wheel has the best contact with the ground since will have the strength to be able to keep moving the car, something that does not happen with cars with rear or front wheel drive. We can say that all-wheel drive cars are indicated for adventurous people.

Obviously it will also be safer in situations where driving can be dangerous, for example when it snows or rains as it has much more grip on the asphalt. We have to keep in mind that even if it is a car that has good grip when it snows, it is not exempt from using chains.

And of course, alsoit will be much safer when we take a curve with the car because we are less likely to suffer from oversteer.

Should you buy a car with all-wheel drive?

To find an answer to what type of traction your car should have, you should take into account what you are going to use the car for:

    • If you want a car that has the basics and that it is comfortable, easy to drive and that it does not cost us an arm and a leg, the best thing would be to get a car that has front-wheel drive.
    • In case you are a experienced driver and you like a sportier driving style, then a car that has rear wheel drive
    • And finally, if what we want is a car with which have adventures and move well on any type of terrain, we should get one with all-wheel drive.

Of course, we must also keep in mind the budget we have since a front-wheel drive car will be cheaper than a rear-wheel drive or an integral one since the drive mechanism is more complex in the case of the latter two.

  • The first electric Jeep discovers all its keys and brings a surprise, gasoline!

Jeep’s first electric car reveals all its secrets. The smallest and most ambitious Jeep model in Europe reveals all its keys to conquering the European market, a bet with which Jeep wants to strengthen its position in the B-segment SUV. And we have surprise, because although The Jeep Avenger will be the first all-electric JeepFinally in markets like Spain you can also buy the Avenger with a gasoline engine.

The Avenger measures 4,080mm in length, making it 16cm shorter than the Renegade, thus becoming the new Jeep access model in Europe. Manufactured at the Tychy plant in Poland, the Jeep Avenger is developed on the Stellantis CMP platform, the same one that gives life to other group crossovers such as the Peugeot 2008, the Citroën C3 Aircross or the Opel Mokka. As a result of using this platform, we are facing the first Jeep that will only be marketed in 4×2 variants, there being no option to have 4×4 traction.

The Avenger will be the first electric Jeep, although in Spain you can also buy it with a gasoline engine

To remedy this absence, the Jeep Avenger has designed its bodywork to offer good angles of attack (20°), ventral (20°) and departure (32°), as well as a ground clearance 200 mm. At the same time, it will feature descent control as standard and a specific Select Terrain system designed to improve grip in low grip conditions. This system will allow you to choose between 6 different programs: Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud and Sand. In addition, in the case of the electric versions, the battery will have a special protection for the underbody called skid plates.

Originally presented as a 100% electric car, Jeep has finally confirmed that the new Jeep Avenger will be sold in Spain and Italy with a gasoline alternative. This version will be available from the start of sales, making use of a 1.2 Turbo engine with power yet to be confirmed (130 hp almost with total probability).

However, the most important version of the Jeep Avenger is the fully electric one. This variant, which will be called Avenger 4xe, makes use of the latest update of the electrical architecture of the CMP platform, which allows us to speak of a 156 hp and 260 Nm electric motor moving the front wheels and a 54 kWh capacity battery. This battery uses 102 lithium ion cells with NCM 811 chemistry and works at 400 volts, and can be recharged at powers of up to 11 kW in alternating current and up to 100 kW in direct current. At full power, the Avenger needs 24 minutes to go from 20 to 80% battery. WLTP autonomy is 400 kmHowever, Jeep ensures that this figure can reach 550 km in urban driving.

In terms of design, the exterior of the Avenger shows a clearly Jeep aesthetic that makes it similar to the rest of the models in the range. The entire exterior has been designed to offer a robust image, with an off-road feel, but that is also functional to withstand scratches and bumps. The interior has a completely new and unprecedented design in the range where the presence of 7 or 10.25″ digital instrument panel depending on the finish, in addition to a 10.25″ UConnect Media System. The multimedia equipment has TomTom navigation, OTA updates and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of space, Jeep claims to offer great roominess thanks to the presence of numerous storage compartments, space for 5 occupants and a trunk with a volume of up to 380 liters.
